The New Ozito 18v 250mm Cordless Chainsaw
This is a review I have been looking forward to writing. I have never owned or even used an electric or cordless chainsaw before but have been told how handy they are to have around. I’ve have heard about how simple they are to use, and how much less hassle they are when it comes to all the the smaller chainsawing jobs that you have around the yard.
Inside the box there is just the chainsaw itself, a spanner/screwdriver and the chain guide bar cover. Keep in mind that this is just a skin from the Ozito Power X Change Range so there is no battery or charger included. You need to buy these separately if you don’t own any of the other tools in the Power X Change range.
Getting started
Even though this chainsaw is cordless and doesn’t need fuel, it does still need oil to lubricate the bar and chain. So before doing anything else you need to fill the chain bar oil tank.
The capacity of the tank is 220ml and make sure you use only “Bar and Chain” oil.
A handy little feature on this model is the Oil Level Window so you can see very easily when this electric chainsaw needs an oil top up.
After adding the oil, and off course a battery, you’re pretty much good to go and start cutting.
As I said earlier I have never used any type of electric chainsaw before, but now that I have used this one, this is the one I use the most…. by far.
Unless I need to chop down a tree, or cut up some large diameter firewood, this cordless Ozito is the only one I have used in the last few months. The 2 stroke Husky is sitting in the workshop collecting dust until it is needed for the bigger jobs.
I can’t state enough about how handy this thing is to have around.
Benefits
- It’s easy to use.
- It’s not always running like a fuel powered one, when you put it down.
- It’s quieter.
- It’s safer, especially if you are not comfortable using the fuel models.
- Cheaper to run – no fuel required.
Just press the trigger to do a cut, then put it on the ground while you clean around a bit and then pick it up and start cutting again. It’s just easy!
Keep in mind that this chainsaw is no where near as powerful as a fuel powered model, so this model is great if you don’t have a lot of large cutting to do, and it’s also great as a second model to have around like I have, to cut up smaller trees and trim branches.
What’s the specification of Cordless Chainsaw?
This is my first time I heard that run by battery. Very interesting tool.
Is it useful for heavy duty work?
Very nice article. The machine is well explained and will be worth using for a handyman like me.
Thank yuy , never used a chain saw but after reading this post I feel more comfortable to do sml job in my back yard. Easy to use and price is very reasinable for tge sml yard jobs.
Looking into buying one from our local Bunnings store.
This is a great little tool. I use it all the time!
Cheers

Hi Steve, good review mate, I noticed that in the pics you’re running a 1.5 amp baby battery, have you tried running the 4.0amp battery? I run the Ozito stuff but with the 4.0amp Pack with a big difference in performance.
I am an Industrial builder , building places like Bunnings with I beam steel using rattle guns like Milwaukee 28v stuff & I must say Ozito has come a long way, to the point that I would tell young apprentices to but it to get started. Cheers for the review. Maybe do comparison reviews between the big names like Makita & Bosch compared to Ozito?
Cheers mate.
Best regards Steve W QLD
Hey Steve,
I run the smaller battery just to make the chainsaw a bit lighter and I can use it with one hand on the small stuff. Haven’t tried it with the 4.0, but definitely will now to see if there is a noticeable difference in performance.
Cheers
Steve
G’day Steve and Stephen,
I use both 1.5 and 4.0 batteries. No difference in performance, just run-time. I had 6 large Jamaican cherry trees in the front yard and lopped then all of to about 4 feet high (lots of 2-4 inch branches) all with a single 4.0A charge. I have also changed up the bar and chain to a 12 inch bar that came with a petrol Ozito. Works very well. No real noticeable difference in performance between the petrol and battery Ozito’s, but a lot handier having battery. Also clean up of the chain drive area and swap-out of chains for sharpening a lot simpler with the cordless.
How long this can run on the 1.5AH battery ?
I’m not sure how long the smaller battery lasts. I use both batteries, and don’t think either have run out of charge in one session. Generally, I use the larger battery, and the smaller is a backup. I also use other Ozito tools, so I actually have three batteries.
I’ve had this chainsaw for about 6 months. I also have a larger petrol chainsaw, which I haven’t used since buying the Ozito battery unit. This is a great tool. Plenty of power, and I work it hard at times. It’s not as powerful as the petrol unit, but seems to cut just as fast. Slices through tree branches 200mm diameter easily. I have both the small and large batteries. There’s no difference in power – just working time. I usually just use the larger battery, and the smaller as backup. This is one of the best tools I’ve bought. Any home with a garden with trees should have one. Easy for my wife to use. Finer details – very easy to adjust tension, and remove the blade for cleaning. Has its own oil lubrication. Very light – no problem with one hand on high branches. I can’t fault it.
Can you use a bigger chain and bar?
Thanks
Didn’t see the Ozito chainsaw at Bunnings so bought a Ryobi. The Ryobi works well on little jobs and I find the small battery has enough oomph to do a fair bit of cutting – the only problem I have is having to drain the oil after use otherwise it pours out wherever it is stored – a pain. Also have an Ozito mulcher and it is a really useful bit of gear.
I just started using mine and the chain keeps coming off the manual talks about a chain tension dial but I can’t see one on mine how do I tighten or loosen the chain
Hi Kathy, the tensioner is the big red knob near the back of the chain / bar.
My chainsaw won’t start. Battery is fully charged. Brake is off and I press the lock off button and squeeze the trigger switch. Nothing happens… what am I missing ?
Paul, I would first try another battery, and the connection points just to be sure they are clean.
Apart from that, honestly no idea what it could be.
