A new Imperial to Metric Converter App that shows Fractions, when converting lengths for DIY projects
Simple Metric Imperial Measurement Converter
I have always found it frustrating, after writing up a DIY article, that when using an online measurement converter it never made it easy to convert my metric measurements to imperial.
For some reason, most of the online conversion calculators convert the imperial measurement equivalent into a decimal version of inches, instead of showing fractions.
It’s hard to make any project when the length you are given to cut your piece of timber is 11.65 inches.
So having a background in online and iOS App Development, I decided to create a measurement converter solution myself.
The Simple Metric Imperial Converter app
I wanted to create a simple solution that did only 1 thing, but did it quickly, simply and well.
This app converts metric and imperial lengths, and does so including fractions!
So to keep the app simple, and handy for DIY projects, I kept the maximum length to 2500mm (just over 8 feet). That length should be more than enough for the majority of DIY and woodwork projects out there.
Also to keep the length conversion quick and simple, one of the main features is that it doesn’t require a keyboard or any typing input to get a result. All you need is the slider and the increment buttons for accuracy.
I created this app to solve a problem I had myself, and hopefully it will also be a handy tool for a lot of others when working on projects in the workshop.
I’d love to hear feedback and thoughts on how this app could be made into an even handier tool to keep in your pocket.
You can get a copy for your self here on the app store.
I’d love to have this app…but I have an android, any suggestions?
Thanks,
Andrea
Sorry Andrea, I only know how to develop for Apple iOS.
If there’s enough interest I’ll find someone to do an Android version.
Thanks for responding so quickly Steve,
That’s too bad. I haven’t found one I like for the a\Android. That would have been perfect…
I couldn’t find one that I liked either, that’s why I made one.
If you ever get an iPhone or iPad let me know and I’ll send you a free Promo code code to redeem on the App Store.
Cheers
Steve
Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind. Cheers!
Sir. I just downloaded and tried the app out. I’m getting bogus results. When I covert 16”, I get 457mm. That appears to be incorrect. What’s up with that?
Hi, the app doesn’t use only inches, you need to use Feet and Inches. You would have used 1’6″ to get 457mm.
If you want to convert 16″ you need to use 1′ 4″
Cheers
Steve
