I came across the Carpentry Australia twitter feed recently. I haven’t worked as a professional carpenter for quite some time now, so I wasn’t too surprised that I hadn’t heard of these guys before.
So I contacted them to get some information on what they are about, and what they offer to their members. In particular what benefit to an Aussie carpenter is it to be a part of Carpentry Australia.
Carpentry Australia – brief introduction
In short, Carpentry Australia has been around since July 2013 and have members in 7 states and territories across Australia.
The association was started by Jake McArthur, a chippie by trade, because the Australian carpentry industry was at a disadvantage compared to the other trades, like plumbers and electricians, due to the lack of a single association to bring carpenters together and offer them ongoing support.
Membership
Membership is very reasonable with free membership for Apprentices, and for qualified carpenters fees start at $99.
Check out their website for all the membership services included.

Hi Steve, You may already know about the evolution of traditional Skylights. This new concept in sky lighting now opens the door for builders, carpenters, etc… to very easily grow their business’ at little cost by entering the lucrative skylight market. Skylights needed to get away from roof penetrations, heat losses and gains etc… They need to be able to access two and three storey dwellings, (to name a couple of advantages) . REDi-lite is the leader in this industry by means of warranty, light output and build quality. A solar panel now sits on a roof, a small cable only, enters the roofspace and then connects up with one or multiple high powered LED lights that look and behave exactly like skylights. Therefore alleviating all future rain/storm damage, roof leaks, heat losses and gains. It is all extra low voltage so no license is necessary. I’m of the belief that it would be a great value add to a Carpenters’ business. Easy install and good margin. I was wondering if you have a magazine or how I could get to educate Carpenters of the business opportunity for them. Thanks in advance, Dave Boland
