First a picture of Rural Fence Bracing the old way:
As you can see the post has been housed out with a chainsaw and the brace has been trimmed on the end to fit into the housing.
It makes for a quality job, but it is time consuming and quite a bit of skill and experience is required to get a neat fit.
Rural Fencing Made Easy
Now here is a picture of a new fence I constructed recently for our back paddock using a new super simple bracing method.
I used an ingenious Australian product called a “Vicebite“.
Now instead of the housing and trimming, all I had to do was:
- Cut the end of the brace at the correct angle.
- Hammer the Vicebite onto the end that I just cut.
- Place the brace against the post, and hammer down.
- I also used a galvanised roofing screw to make sure it held in place.
Here are a couple of close ups of the finished job.
And a couple of images of the Vicebites themselves.
This is from their website:
“Vicebite fence brackets have been developed to make fencing faster; Vicebite fencing brackets assist in constructing a solid end assembly that will stand the test of time and makes light work of farm and general fencing
Vicebite’s teeth work as nails or screws and will imbed into the timber post under the force of wire tensioning. There are no sharp edges for animals to get hurt and with the double row of teeth on the front and back of the bracket, Vicebite will not be dislodged under the impact of animals or machines. “
A simple and clever product that definitely made my life a whole lot easier.
I highly recommend this product and will definitely use it again.
